Update on Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) for Weight Management Referral
As of 23 June 2025, it was announced that individuals living with obesity will begin to have access to tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) for weight loss in primary care settings. However, this national rollout does not mean that everyone will be able to receive a prescription for tirzepatide (Mounjaro®) immediately.
Weight management services are commissioned locally at the Integrated Care Board (ICB) level. In Mid and South Essex, access to tirzepatide will initially be available only through specialist weight management services. Access via primary care in Mid and South Essex is not expected to begin until later in 2025.
Please note that access to Specialist Weight Management Services is available only through a referral from your GP.
Before booking a GP appointment, you must first meet specific eligibility criteria. To check your eligibility for a referral, please visit the ICB website using the link below. The site provides a full list of Tier 2 services and the eligibility criteria for Tier 3 services. Once you have confirmed you meet the requirements, you can book an appointment with your GP to discuss a referral.
